What are Ancestry Hints?

Ancestry Hints give you helpful, accurate leads to your next big discoveries in family story.

How? Imagine you've entered everything you know into your family tree. What then? It could be as easy as following the hints small, green leaf icons (    ) you'll find beside names in your tree. Based on the information you've provided, hints link you to historical records and trees that might hold answers about your ancestors. Ancestry Hints could even add entire generations to your tree.

What do I do now?
Getting hints in your family tree is easy. Here's how:
  1. The more information you enter, the more (and better quality) hints you'll receive. Start by entering what you know into your tree.
  2. Ask family what they know and add that to your family tree.
  3. You should start to see leaf icons, also known as Ancestry Hints. Hover over one of these icons with your mouse.
  4. This will present an abbreviated list of possible record matches for a given ancestor, as well as a link to a page devoted to your hints. Click the link.
  5. You'll see your entire list of hints, which may include records, historical documents and other information.
  6. Before you add a record, double-check to make sure it describes your ancestor.
